H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu)
The recent occurrence of confirmed cases of the H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu) virus has generated inquiries regarding the use of respiratory protection devices (respirators). Respirators can help reduce exposures to certain airborne diseases, such as H1N1, but can not eliminate exposure to or the risk of contracting any disease or infection. The respirator is designed to cover your nose and mouth. It can help reduce the number of airborne disease causing organisms (germs) you breathe. However, the respirator cannot eliminate the breathing in of all germs in the air and does not eliminate the possibility of contracting infection, illness, or disease. The use of a respirator will not prevent entry of germs through your skin, eyes, or other parts of your body. For proper respirator use, see supervisor, or respirator User Instructions, or call OH&ESD Technical Service at 1-800-243-4630.
